Uttarakhand is one of the most popular places among the tour lovers. It is at the northern part of India, surrounded by countries Nepal and China, and by Indians states Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The gigantic mountains of Himalayas, drifting rivers, floating clouds, green vallies, quiet and pollution free weather and compact forests make a heaven like atmosphere. In words, it is very hard to describe the beauty of the place, called ‘Land of Gods’. The reason to call ‘Land of Gods’ or ‘Devbhoomi’ is there are lots of numbers of Hindu temples and ancient temples that attract pilgrims. ATTRACTIONS

HILLSTATIONS:  There are many hill stations in Uttarakhand. Famous ones are Dehradun, Nainital, Mussoorie, Auli, Chopta etc. Dehradun was established by British when they ruled India. Almora and Kasauni have some faded historical connections. You won’t get bored for a single moment you will spend here. It will surely be treat for eyes.

WILDLIFE: Uttarakhand is blessed with greens, valleys and forests. There are a lots of Wildlife sanctuary can be seen. Jim Corbett national park, Rajaji national park, Govind national park, Nanda Devi national park etc. Jim Corbett national park is more popular among others, because it’s the oldest and the first to reserve tigers. But in monsoon time the sanctuaries remain closed for some security reasons. Not only tigers, leopards, various species of deer, snake, bears, sloths, monkeys, langur, elephants and migratory birds, jungle cats are also found.

PILGRIMIAGE: In the land of Uttarakhand many Hindu temples, ancient and historical temples are situated. That’s why it is called ‘Devbhoomi’. The rivers originate here, are all treated as holy and have mythological stories. Kedarnath, Badrinath, Hrishikesh are the main spots where pilgrims gather more to gain piety.

THINGS TO DO: This Himalayan state is paradise for the people having hunger of adventures and thrills. Uttarakhand offers to adventurous sports like skiing, river rafting, mountaineering, paragliding, trekking. 

Paragliding is one of the most famous adventure aero sport, where a wingless aircraft is used to launch and you can glide miles. In the world during 1980. It was originated around the year 1940. 

Skiing is normally a winter sport. Lands covered with snow is the only condition for skiing. Skiing in snow covered mountain slopes add more thrills.

Rafting in Uttarakhand’s flowing rivers no doubt very thrilling and exciting and not so difficult. 

Flanking by the great Himalaya, trekking is the common sport in Uttarakhand. The mesmerizing beauty of Himalayan landscapes automatically increase the energy level of trekkers.

 

BEST PLACES TO VISIT

Dehradun: Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand and situated at the Garhwal region. At the time of British period, the city was called Dehra. Dehradun is located in the Doon valley and between the holy rivers Ganga and Yamuna. Dehradun city is famous for the beautiful landscapes view and quiet climate.  Robbers’ cave is 8 km away from Dehradun. It’s a river cave from Himalayas, that’s a natural formation, a water flowing through the cave. The view of the place attract more tourist. There is also a very cold water spring in underground to cool down the summer atmosphere. 

Sahastradhara is located around 11-13 km away from Dehradun city. Sahastradhara means ‘thousand fold spring’. Though the place can be visited any time of the year, it’s beauty increases in the monsoon time. Taking a dip in this water can remove stress and it is heard that it has a medical advantage because it contains sulfur in it. People also enjoy its view from rope way ride. There are some water amusement parks, restaurants and accommodation places nearby.

Mindrolling Monastery is one of the tourist spots in Dehradun. It was established in 1965. It’s one of the 6 major monasteries of Tibet’s nyingma schools. The monastery surrounded by beautiful flower gardens and Stupas. Nyingma College is also within the place to offer Buddhist studies to monks. There are some temple rooms in the monastery and a big Buddha statue to attract people. The mindrolling monastery is the largest Buddha Centre in India.

Tapovan temple is a visiting place in Dehradun. It is 6 km away from city Dehradun and above the Gangotri glacier. Tapovan valley is bounded with greenery and can be visit any time of the year. Tapovan ashram conducts yoga courses to them, who are interested.

 

HARIDWAR AND RISHIKESH: Haridwar and Rishikesh are also holy cities in Garhwal region in Uttarakhand. Haridwar means ‘abode of Vishnu’. Every year a huge number of pilgrims come here. Haridwar and Rishikesh are called ‘twin national heritage cities’. The people of the cities are vegetarian because of their holy natures. People from all around the world come to visit mystical and spiritual cities Haridwar and Rishikesh.

JIM CORBETT NATIONAL PARK:  Jim Corbett national park is the oldest national park of Uttarakhand. And first tiger preservation park of India, established at 1936. Safari in this park done on the back of elephants and in four wheeler hoodless cars, mainly jeep. Otters, crocodiles, wild buffalos are seen here. Jim Corbett national park is a home for almost 650 species of migratory birds.

 

MUSSOORIE:  Mussoorie is enlisted to one of the most beautiful hill station of India. It is known as ‘Queen of Hills’. And it is just above the Doon valley and what distance you see, you will see the long Himalayan peaks. LAL TIBBA, LAKE MIST, GUN HILL, CLOUD’S END are the most desired places to see in Mussoorie.

It’s a good place for the trek and hike loving people. You can enjoy the scenic view boarding on rope way as well.

 

AULI: Auli is located 2800 meters above the sea level. it is one the best ski destination of India, because of  Skiing is done between December and March. This valley has one of the highest species of flowers found in the world.
